It  was   a   historic occasion  at  District Jail Jammu  where  Hon’ble Justice  Tashi  Rabstan  inaugurated  ‘Jail Products  Display  Unit’  within  the  Amphalla  Jail  and  thereafter  attended  a  cultural programme  that was  presented by   the prisoners.          Vice Chancellor  University of  Jammu  Prof.  M.K. Dhar,  Principal & District Sessions Judge  Jammu Vinod Koul Chatterji   in the  presence of  DGP Prisons  V.K. Singh, IPS  witnessed  the programme.   600  odd  inmates  and  large  number of  prison  staff  and  CRPF  personnel   also  witnessed  the  event   besides  family members  of  some  of the  prisoners/inmates.  Though  the  theme  of the program  was the  Independence Day  but  it  reflected  the huge  talent  of   the prisoners  that has been  channelized  by the   prison authorities.
In  his welcome  address,  Jail  Superintendent   Mirza  Saleem Beig  highlighted  the activities  going  on  in the Prison  and the efforts  being made  for the reformation  of  prisoners  through  different  vocational  training  programs  and educational courses.  DGP Prisons V.K. Singh, IPS   in  his address   underlined  the  recent  steps  being taken  for the  improvement  of Prison  administration,  welfare  of prisoners  besides  increasing cultural activities  &  vocational training.  Chief Guest  Hon’ble Justice  Tashi  Rabstan  appreciated  the prisoners for the  diverse  talent  displayed   during   cultural  program  besides  their  talent  in drawing and painting.  He urged  them to occupy knowledge  skills  available  in prison   and  select   at-least  one  activity  to keep  themselves  busy     so  that  they  feel  no hindrance  in their  social  re-adjustment  once they are released.
